Westminter City Council
The vision of Westminster City Council is to promote the image of “One City”. A
city of strong communities and exceptional services. A city characterised by tolerant
and active citizens where the council maintains order, offers opportunity and supports
innovative businesses.
To do this, the Council has set itself four objectives, which range from offering
new business opportunities to leisure initiatives and the renewal of the city’s
streets and parks.
There are 200,000 residents in the City of Westminster, 49% of which are white and
39% are from black and minority ethnic communities (BME). By focusing on this rich
diversity of community, the Council aims to give people the opportunity to play
a fuller role in city life.
With the challenge of realising “One City” the council is setting about getting
to know its customers, the services they want and asking when and how they want
to be served.
For external suppliers, each outsourcing contract has a diversity clause to clarify
and manage expectations for both parties.
As an employer, Westminster focuses on diversity and inclusion as part of its overall
leadership strategy and has in place a comprehensive learning and development programme.
