A diverse workforce is often the key to good business, however today companies stand to be damaged should the communication between it and its diverse workforce be incorrectly managed.

The new Employment Equality (Age) Regulations, which will be in effect from 1 October 2006, will be one of the topics addressed by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in their half-day conference to give PR practitioners the opportunity to explore the business case for diversity.

The conference, which takes place on 18 October 2006, will be chaired by Chris Genasi, the immediate past president of the CIPR and CEO of Eloqui Public Relations. The afternoon will provide you with advice and ideas that can be utilised in the office.

The conference, which costs £141 for CIPR members and £205.63 for non-members, can be booked online at www.cipr.co.uk/Training/new/conferences/index.asp and includes an informal drinks reception where you will be able to share your thoughts and ideas with other delegates.

Black History Month
Black History Month was first celebrated in October 1987 as part of African Jubilee Year. It has since grown to recognise and embrace the contributions and traditions of other black communities.

It has its origins in the United States, where since 1926, February has been recognised as Black History Month, celebrating and acknowledging achievements and keeping alive heritage, traditions and histories.

The Horniman Museum - Amazon to Caribbean: Early People of the Rainforest. The exhibition will also feature the work of contemporary black artists from both Britain and the Caribbean.

Black in the British Frame

Black in the British Frame is Stephen Bourne's award-winning book charting a century of black cinema and television in Britain. In his illustrated talk, Stephen will give a personal insight into the research he has conducted in this area and what he believes this country should be doing to recognise black achievers in British history.

Moments: Black Dance in Britain 1930s to 1990s
Monday 2 October to Tuesday 31 October 2006

A month long exhibition celebrating and documenting the professional experiences of some of the highly talented Black dance artists who worked in Britain between the 1930s and the 1990s. Featured artists include Namron, Brenda Edwards, Corrine Bougaard, Carol Straker, Stuart Arnold and Kenneth Tharp, who danced with Rambert and English National Ballet.

Sandblast: The Saharawi People of Western Sahara
Monday 2 October to Tuesday 31 October 2006

This photographic exhibition highlights the plight of almost 200,000 Saharawis who have been refugees in the Algerian desert for over 30 years while tens of thousands more live under a repressive occupying regime in their homeland. For more information go to www.sandblast-arts.org

Seeing Africa: Tate Britain
Seeing Africa is a display of 'Africaniste' paintings and sculptures, selected from one private collection. Some of the images are the lesser known work of prominent artists. Some are by obscure figures about whom little is known.
